Engaging our community and giving back with AI and advanced robotics learning experiences

Posted on March 17, 2024

When you operate one of the largest Labs for industrial AI, advanced robotics and autonomous drones, plus the technical know-how to use them, there’s a lot you can do in terms of giving back to your community.

Everyone at Levatas had teachers and role models who kick-started our journeys into technology, and we love doing our part to give back. Here are just a few examples of our community outreach events from the past year;

Cox Science Center Maker Faire

The Cox Science Center is our local science museum, and one of our favorite places to go. In May 2023, we were able to attend the Palm Beach Mini Maker Faire and present Spot to the makers and families in attendance. Levatas Data Scientist Joshua Albert gave the presentation and Q&A at the outdoor amphitheater, and walked the robot through the exhibition, stopping for questions, photo-ops, and to meet some of the young roboticists visiting that day.

College of Charleston Robotic Wrangling Class Guest Lecture

We first met Professor Qian Zhang at a proof of concept robotics demonstration with one of our customers. She has since visited our lab, and invited us to give a guest lecture for her Engineering class, titled “Robotic Wrangling”. Levatas VP of Engineering David Newmon, and Principal Data Scientist Joshua Albert took time to impart some of our accumulated knowledge to her class of young engineers.

Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films

With Artificial Intelligence as the year’s theme, it was only natural to bring robots with artificial intelligence capabilities to the showcase and awards program here in our hometown of Palm Beach County. Levatas added some high-tech glamor to the event honoring some of the area’s best student filmmakers.

Cox Science Center Groundbreaking

Back to our favorite science museum, the Cox Science Center has plans for an enormous expansion to provide more exhibits and experiences for local families. Our CEO Chris Nielsen brought a couple of our Spot units to add to the celebratory atmosphere at the official groundbreaking of this project. We look forward to participating in the opening ceremony in 2026 or 2027, and beyond.

Assorted Robotics Club Visits

Of course we visit some of our local robotics clubs! Whether they’re just starting to learn about robotics, or building their own robots for nationwide competitions, we love helping out and being a part of their learning experience.

And onwards...

The above are just a few examples of how we try to give back to our community. Stay tuned for many more to come.
